The 24-time national champions open their campaign on October 16 against the Leones del Escogido.
The Tigres del Licey are entering the 2026-27 Dominican winter baseball season with a mix of roster changes, stadium-experience upgrades and new initiatives celebrating the club’s history. The Santo Domingo-based team presented its plans on October 12, ahead of the opening of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) season on October 16.
The 24-time national champions will begin their campaign against city rivals the Leones del Escogido at 7:15 p.m. The announcement highlighted the club’s focus on competing for another championship while expanding its offerings for supporters through digital ticketing, a new VIP lounge and the creation of the Galería Azul 1907.
Tigres del Licey Introduce the Manny Mota Award
One of the main announcements was the creation of the Manny Mota Award, which will be presented for the first time during the 2026-27 season. The distinction is inspired by the example of Manny Mota, a respected figure in Dominican baseball whose career and service have made him a symbol of dedication and generosity.
The initiative was conceived by Miguel Ángel Fernández, a former club president who currently serves as treasurer, and team captain Emilio Bonifacio. The award is intended to recognize the values associated with Licey, both on the field and in the wider community.
The new distinction adds a recognition program focused on character and commitment alongside the club’s competitive ambitions. Further details about the selection criteria and the first recipient were not included in the announcement.
Club Leadership Highlights Fan Experience Improvements
Club president Miguel Guerra Armenteros said the organization would approach the season with an emphasis on discipline, unity and the responsibility of maintaining Licey’s tradition.
The planned improvements include a new VIP lounge, the Galería Azul 1907 and digital ticketing. The initiatives are intended to enhance the experience of supporters attending games and provide additional ways to engage with the team.
For a club with a large following in the Dominican Republic, the measures extend the season’s preparations beyond the playing roster. The organization is seeking to combine its historic identity with updated services and more digital interaction with fans.
Audo Vicente Presents Baseball Operations Department
Audo Vicente, the club’s vice president of operations and general manager, thanked the board for its support in assembling a competitive team and introduced the baseball operations department as part of the season presentation.
The announced group of established players and emerging talent includes pitchers César Valdez, Adonis Medina, Albert Abreu, Yordanny Monegro, Jean Carlos Mejía, Misael Tamárez and Michael Arias.
Position players named among the team’s core include Jesús Madé, Kevin Alcántara, captain Emilio Bonifacio, Mel Rojas Jr., Cristhian Adames, Sergio Alcántara, Francisco Mejía, Gustavo Núñez, Domingo Leyba, Ramón Hernández and Ángel Ortiz.
The mix combines experienced players familiar to Dominican winter baseball followers with younger talent. The final composition of the active roster and the availability of individual players may evolve as the season progresses.
Imported Players Strengthen the Roster
Licey also announced eight imported players for the campaign, covering pitching, the outfield, the infield and catching.
The pitchers are José Quintana, Vladimir Gutiérrez, Daniel Martínez, Nico Tellache and Javy Guerra. The position players are outfielder Estevan Florial, infielder José Barrero and catcher Bryan Lavastida.
These additions give the baseball operations department options across several positions as the team prepares for the demands of the LIDOM schedule. The club’s performance will depend on how the returning core and imported players integrate during the season.
New Faces Join Licey’s Digital and Broadcast Teams
The club’s announcements also covered its entertainment and media operations. Communicator and producer Josell Hernández will return as the team’s on-site host, while Miguel Arias will produce digital content for TikTok and make special appearances from the stands.
The broadcast team will feature Ildefonso Ureña, Franklin Mirabal, José Luis Montilla and César Marchena as play-by-play announcers. Fernando Ravelo, Tommy Troncoso, Rafael Díaz and Alex Luna will provide commentary.
Commercial announcements will be handled by Welkis Ramírez, Santos Peralta and Fernando Custodio. Paloma Almonte and Roosevelt Comarazamy Jr. will host the pregame show.
