The Tigres del Licey earned a 3-0 victory over city rivals the Leones del Escogido in a rain-shortened game at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in Santo Domingo. The matchup ended in the bottom of the seventh inning because of rain, with Licey’s pitchers keeping Escogido off the scoreboard.
Licey took the lead in the second inning when outfielder Ángel Ortiz hit a sacrifice fly that brought home Kevin Alcántara against starter Dinelson Lamet.
Madé and Franco Add to Licey’s Lead
The blue team extended its advantage in the fifth inning through a sequence that began with Gustavo Núñez drawing a two-out walk. Núñez stole second and advanced to third after a throwing error by catcher Michael de la Cruz.
Jesús Madé then delivered a single up the middle to drive in Núñez, making it 2-0 against reliever Alex Colomé. Madé finished the game 2-for-3 with a stolen base and an RBI, contributing both at the plate and on the bases.
Maikel Franco added the final run in the sixth with a solo home run to left field off reliever Brian McKenna. Franco homered in his only plate appearance of the game, putting Licey ahead 3-0.
Licey Pitchers Combine for a Shutout
Licey’s pitching staff delivered seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Michael Arias, Javy Guerra, Luis Peralta, Ofreidy Gómez, Gerald Ogando, Ángel Perdomo and José Hernández each worked one inning.
Kevin Alcántara went 1-for-2 and scored a run, while Madé’s two hits and stolen base helped sustain Licey’s offense. The staff’s combined effort preserved the shutout until the weather forced the game to stop.
