Lorena Ochoa Plays Teeth of the Dog for the First Time

Lorena Ochoa, the former world No. 1 and two-time major champion, made her first appearance at Teeth of the Dog on Friday during a visit to Casa de Campo Resort & Villas in La Romana, one of the Dominican Republic’s best-known golf destinations.

The Mexican Hall of Famer also took part in a golf clinic attended by Tourism Minister David Collado, Central Romana Corporation Executive Vice President Leo Matos, and Casa de Campo President Andrés Pichardo Rosenberg. The event brought Ochoa into direct contact with golfers from the resort’s academy and young players affiliated with the Dominican Golf Federation.

For the participants, the visit provided an opportunity to learn from a player whose career established her as one of the most successful golfers in Latin American history. Ochoa shared technical advice and professional experiences while speaking with children and young golfers about the sport and their development.

Ochoa Experiences Teeth of the Dog

Ochoa said playing Teeth of the Dog for the first time was a highlight of her visit, pointing to the course’s seaside holes and long-standing reputation.

“I’m very happy to be at Casa de Campo and to have been able to play Teeth of the Dog for the first time. It is a spectacular course, with a huge history and holes along the sea that are truly impressive,” Ochoa said.

The course, designed by renowned architect Pete Dye, is known for its seven oceanfront holes, commonly referred to as the “Heaven 7.” Its coastal setting has made Teeth of the Dog a major attraction within Casa de Campo’s golf offering.

Ochoa also emphasized the importance of spending time with younger players, describing children and teenagers as the future of the sport.

A Career That Put Ochoa Among Golf’s Elite

Ochoa finished her professional career with 27 LPGA Tour titles and spent 158 consecutive weeks as the world’s No. 1-ranked female golfer. She is also a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Her appearance in the Dominican Republic therefore extended beyond a round of golf. Her interaction with local junior players gave aspiring golfers access to one of the sport’s most recognizable figures and connected Casa de Campo’s existing golf programs with an international champion.

Collado invited Ochoa to the Dominican Republic to participate in his Emprendedores program and highlighted both her sporting achievements and her personal qualities during the visit.

“Her example is a true reference for young people,” Collado said, citing Ochoa’s determination, discipline and ability to achieve ambitious goals.

Casa de Campo Strengthens Its Golf Profile

Pichardo Rosenberg described Ochoa’s presence as an honor for Casa de Campo and linked the visit to the resort’s broader identity as an international golf destination.

Teeth of the Dog forms part of a three-course golf offering at Casa de Campo that also includes Dye Fore and The Links. The resort additionally operates a Golf Learning Center serving players at different skill levels.

For international golfers visiting the Dominican Republic, Casa de Campo’s combination of multiple courses, coastal scenery and access to golf instruction has helped make La Romana a destination within the Caribbean golf market. Ochoa’s visit adds another high-profile connection between the resort and the international golf community.

Her first round at Teeth of the Dog also placed one of Latin America’s most accomplished golfers on a course closely associated with Pete Dye’s work, while her clinic brought that experience directly to young players developing their skills in the Dominican Republic.
