JCE Launches ID Renewal Operation In Cap Cana

The Central Electoral Board (JCE), the Dominican Republic’s institution responsible for civil registration and electoral administration, has launched a special ID renewal operation in Cap Cana, bringing the service directly to one of the country’s growing residential and tourism destinations.

The temporary facility is intended to serve property owners, residents, employees and other citizens who live or work in Cap Cana, in La Altagracia province. The initiative is designed to reduce the need for people based in the destination to travel elsewhere to complete the renewal of their identity and electoral card.

The operation formally began with a visit by Américo Rodríguez, director of the JCE’s Identification Department, who was received by Jorge Subero Medina, executive president of Cap Cana. The two officials toured the facilities prepared to provide the service inside the destination.

Full ID Renewal Service Available On Site

Unlike a limited registration point, the temporary operation has been equipped to handle the main stages of the renewal process in the same location. Citizens can have their personal information captured, along with their photograph and fingerprints, before the new identification card is personalized and delivered on site.

Rodríguez said the arrangement is particularly useful for people whose jobs or residences place them away from their communities of origin. Bringing the equipment to Cap Cana allows those citizens to complete the process closer to where they currently live or work.

The JCE transferred the necessary equipment to provide the service, including the personalization machine and systems used to capture biometric information. The temporary facilities also offer air conditioning and parking, according to the information provided by the organizers.

For residents and workers in Cap Cana, the arrangement can make an otherwise routine government procedure more convenient by concentrating the required steps in a single location rather than requiring multiple trips to another identification center.

Public-Private Cooperation In A Growing Destination

Subero Medina described the operation as an example of cooperation between the public and private sectors to bring essential government services closer to the community. Cap Cana has developed into a destination combining residential communities, tourism facilities, businesses and employment, creating demand for services used by a diverse population.

The initiative also reflects the broader role that large destination developments can play in supporting access to public services. As communities expand, services such as identification, civil registration and other government procedures become increasingly relevant to people who live and work within them.

The collaboration between Cap Cana and the JCE establishes a framework for bringing additional institutional services closer to the area in the future, although no specific additional services were announced as part of the current operation.

The temporary ID renewal service therefore extends access to a key public procedure for a population that includes both permanent residents and people whose employment is based in the destination.
