Dominican Republic Volleyball Team Beats Canada 3-1

The Dominican Republic volleyball team extended its perfect start at the XXIII Senior Women’s Pan American Volleyball Cup with a 3-1 victory over Canada on Sunday at the Feria de León Dome in Guanajuato, Mexico.

The Dominican side won 25-12, 23-25, 27-25 and 25-17 in a match that became increasingly competitive after a dominant opening set. The result gave Las Reinas del Caribe a 3-0 record and kept them at the top of Group A, while Canada fell to 1-2.

Heredia Colón Leads Dominican Attack

Flormarie Heredia Colón produced the standout individual performance, finishing with 30 points to lead the Dominican offense. Massiel Matos added 17 points and contributed defensively, while Alondra Tapia scored 13 and Florangel Terrero finished with 11.

Terrero also made an impact through attacks from the middle and the wings, as well as at the net. The Dominican team finished with a significant advantage in attacking points, 70-48, and also led Canada 11-7 in blocks.

Canada’s leading scorers were Payton Henderson with 19 points, Enma Boyd with 16 and Emoni Busch with 11.

Dominican Republic Responds After Canada Levels Match

The Dominican Republic controlled the opening set from the start, limiting Canada to 12 points. Canada responded in the second behind Busch, Boyd and Henderson, taking the set 25-23 to level the match.

The third set proved to be the decisive turning point. With the score remaining close throughout, Heredia Colón, Matos and Terrero helped maintain the Dominican pressure, while Candida Arias provided an important contribution after entering from the bench. The Dominican Republic eventually secured the set 27-25.

In the fourth set, Las Reinas del Caribe regained control behind the attacking play of Heredia Colón, Tapia and Matos. They closed out the match by holding Canada to 17 points.

Defense And Bench Contributions Make Difference

The Dominican team also received important contributions beyond its leading scorers. Substitute setter Crismeily Panaigua came on during the second half to cover for Camila de la Rosa and helped distribute the ball effectively across the court.

Yaneiris Rodríguez was also highlighted for her defensive performance as the Dominican side combined strong floor defense with effective blocking to contain Canada’s attack during the decisive stages of the match.

The Dominican Republic will have a day off on Monday before returning to competition Tuesday against Puerto Rico. The match is scheduled for 10 p.m. Dominican time.
