Josué de Paula dispara primer jonrón de su carrera en las GL

Josué de Paula opened his Major League Baseball account with a performance that included his first career home run and his first two hits, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers build an early lead against the Miami Marlins.

The Dominican left-handed hitter launched a 98-mph fastball from fellow Dominican pitcher Eury Pérez over the right-field wall in the second inning. The 2-2 pitch drove in two runners and put Los Angeles ahead 3-0.

A 416-Foot Home Run

De Paula’s first MLB home run left his bat at 108.2 mph and traveled an estimated 416 feet, reaching the right-field balcony at loanDepot Park, Miami’s home stadium.

After watching the ball’s flight for several seconds, De Paula celebrated by tapping his chest before making his way around the bases. His Dodgers teammates greeted him at home plate, with Teóscar Hernández among those celebrating the rookie’s milestone.

First Double Completes Two-Hit Game

De Paula added another milestone in the top of the sixth inning, driving a ball into the fence between center and right field for his first MLB double.

He finished the game 2-for-2 with three RBIs, one run scored and one walk, accounting for his first two major league hits in the same game.

Called Up To Replace Shohei Ohtani

The Dodgers called De Paula up from the minor leagues earlier in the week to take Shohei Ohtani’s place on the roster while the Japanese star recovers from knee discomfort.

De Paula entered Sunday’s game still looking for his first major league hit after going 0-for-5 across his first two MLB appearances. He had drawn three walks and scored once during those games before breaking through against Miami.

The performance gives the young Dominican a notable start to his early major league career, with both of his first hits arriving in the same game and his first home run providing an immediate impact in the Dodgers’ lineup.
