The National Environmental Protection Service (SENPA), a specialized agency within the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, reported stronger operational results during the first half of 2026, reflecting an increase in environmental monitoring and enforcement efforts across the Dominican Republic.
According to official figures released by the ministry, the agency recorded higher performance across its main operational indicators compared with the same period in 2025. Authorities said the increase demonstrates ongoing efforts to strengthen compliance with the country’s environmental legislation and improve enforcement against environmental offenses.
More operations and enforcement actions
Between January and June 2026, SENPA carried out more than 30,000 environmental enforcement operations, compared with just over 20,000 operations during the first six months of 2025.
The agency also reported increases in the number of people detained, vehicles seized, and case files forwarded to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Environment and Natural Resources, the institution responsible for prosecuting environmental crimes in the Dominican Republic.
In addition, SENPA recorded a rise in the number of undocumented foreign nationals transferred to the General Directorate of Migration, in accordance with the agency’s legal responsibilities.
Focus on enforcing environmental law
The Ministry of Environment said the results align with the management strategy promoted by Environment Minister Paíno Henríquez, which prioritizes stronger environmental oversight, enforcement of Law No. 64-00 on Environment and Natural Resources, and a more effective institutional response to environmental crimes.
Officials emphasized that SENPA maintains a permanent presence throughout the country through surveillance, inspections, and environmental control operations designed to protect forests, ecosystems, and other natural resources.

The ministry said the agency’s first-half performance demonstrates its commitment to expanding its operational presence nationwide while supporting broader government efforts to safeguard the country’s natural heritage. Authorities indicated that continued enforcement will remain a key component of the Dominican Republic’s environmental protection strategy.
