3.2 Million Join Dominican Republic’s 2026 Earthquake Drill

Approximately 3.2 million people participated Tuesday in the Dominican Republic’s 2026 National Earthquake Evacuation Drill, a nationwide exercise designed to improve the population’s ability to respond in an organized manner during a major seismic emergency.

The exercise was organized by the government through the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and was carried out simultaneously in locations across the country. COE Director Edwin Olivares reported the participation figure following the nationwide event.

Schools, Businesses And Institutions Take Part

Public and private institutions, schools, businesses and other organizations activated their alarm and evacuation systems during the exercise. Participants moved toward previously designated meeting points while following instructions from emergency brigades and personnel responsible for implementing evacuation protocols.

The coordinated exercise was intended to provide practical experience rather than simply communicate emergency recommendations. By rehearsing evacuation procedures in advance, institutions and communities can identify how their existing systems operate and reinforce the roles of personnel responsible for guiding people to safety.
