Frente Amplio Holds Eighth Protest Over Cost Of Living

The Frente Amplio, a Dominican political organization, staged its eighth protest march in Santo Domingo Oeste as part of a series of mobilizations demanding government action over the rising cost of living and electricity service.

The organization called for measures to reduce the prices of food and medicines, while also demanding an end to power outages affecting communities.

Frente Amplio Says Household Purchasing Power Is Under Pressure

Carlos Rosario, president of the Frente Amplio’s municipal committee in Santo Domingo Oeste, said thousands of Dominican families continue to face pressure from the deterioration of their purchasing power.

“The population feels that their salary reaches less and less,” Rosario said, arguing that families are being forced to buy fewer foods, replace essential products and limit their spending because their income no longer covers the same expenses.

The organization said the situation requires greater community participation and called on residents to join its mobilization efforts to press the government to address the demands.

Eighth March Held In Santo Domingo Oeste

The march began at 9:30 a.m. from the intersection of Isabel Aguiar and México streets in Santo Domingo Oeste.

According to the organization, the demonstration is part of a broader series of protests it has been carrying out for more than a year in different municipalities.

The Frente Amplio said the march drew the attention of residents in the area, some of whom expressed support for the demands raised by the protesters.

Demands Focus On Prices And Electricity

The mobilization centered on two issues directly affecting household expenses and daily life: the cost of essential goods and the reliability of electricity service.

The organization specifically demanded lower prices for food and medicines and called for measures to end power outages, while urging residents, neighborhood associations, community organizations, merchants, workers, young people and women to remain involved in the mobilization.

The Frente Amplio said it intends to continue organizing actions in response to what it describes as persistent economic pressures facing Dominican households.
