Dominican Republic Launches Institute of the Future to Advance Strategic Foresight
The Dominican Republic has officially launched the Institute of the Future, a new organization designed to promote strategic foresight, innovation, and long-term planning while positioning the country as a regional hub for future studies and leadership development.
The Dominican Republic has officially introduced the Institute of the Future (IFRF), an organization created to strengthen strategic foresight, governance, ethical leadership, and long-term planning in response to the technological, economic, environmental, and geopolitical challenges shaping the 21st century.
The launch event combined advanced technology with institutional dialogue, featuring artificial intelligence, facial recognition, autonomous robots, immersive audiovisual presentations, and live international connections. The organizers used the event to emphasize that preparing for the future requires practical action rather than long-term speculation.
A Platform Focused on Anticipating Global Change
The ceremony brought together representatives from government institutions, the private sector, universities, diplomatic missions, international organizations, business leaders, researchers, academics, and media representatives. The gathering served as a forum to discuss how emerging global trends are expected to influence public policy, education, innovation, economic development, and institutional governance.
During the event, Dr. Roberto Fulcar Encarnación, founder of the Institute of the Future, outlined the organization’s mission of fostering a culture of anticipation that enables countries to better understand major global transformations, prepare for future challenges, and convert uncertainty into opportunities for sustainable development.
Fulcar said that the future should no longer be viewed as a distant possibility but as a shared responsibility, arguing that societies capable of anticipating change will be better positioned to make strategic decisions that improve competitiveness, resilience, and long-term prosperity.
International Collaboration and Regional Vision
One of the central activities during the launch was the international panel, “Foresight, Anticipation and Governance: The Future of Latin America,” where specialists discussed the importance of integrating foresight into policymaking, education systems, innovation strategies, economic planning, and institutional development across the region.
The hybrid event connected participants through 21 simultaneous gatherings across provinces in the Dominican Republic and an additional 19 meetings in Latin America, the United States, and Europe, expanding the initiative’s international reach from its inaugural day.
Building a Long-Term Innovation Ecosystem
Before its official launch, the Institute developed its organizational framework through international partnerships, the design of academic programs, the creation of the Futuro Hoy con Roberto Fulcar podcast, and the Future Dialogues series. According to the organization, these initiatives reflect its strategy of developing projects before formally presenting them to the public.
The Institute says its broader objective is to strengthen the country’s capacity to address complex future scenarios, cultivate new leadership, and support the design of public policies, business strategies, and innovation processes guided by long-term thinking.
With the launch of the Institute of the Future, the Dominican Republic aims to establish itself as a regional reference point for strategic foresight, future studies, and innovation, creating a platform with ambitions that extend beyond the Caribbean to Latin America and the international community.
